Saudi Arabia's tourism push over the past several years has opened destinations well beyond the two holy cities. AlUla, home to the Hegra archaeological site (Saudi Arabia's first UNESCO World Heritage location), draws comparisons to Jordan's Petra and is increasingly popular with travellers extending a Jeddah or Madinah trip.

Riyadh, the capital, has developed a modern skyline and cultural district (Diriyah, the birthplace of the first Saudi state) alongside its business-hub reputation. Jeddah's historic Al-Balad district offers Red Sea coastal Old Town architecture worth a half-day visit if you're already flying through Jeddah for Umrah.

The Red Sea coast has also opened newer resort developments aimed at leisure travel, positioning Saudi Arabia as a genuine beach-and-culture destination rather than purely a religious travel corridor.
